What is DirectX 10?

DirectX 10 (DX 10) is the next generation Application Programming Interface (API) of Microsoft's program handling tasks related to multimedia, especially game programming and video on Microsoft platforms. It utilizes programming that enhances 3D graphics-rendering capabilities and improves performance in games and high-end 3D applications compared to previous versions. For gamers and video enthusiasts, this translates to reliable, higher-performance graphics and more detail per frame, with enhanced lighting and shadow effects in Flight Simulator X SP 2. DX 10 will deliver these impressive feature and performance improvements on computers with the operating systems listed above. Versions of DirectX v10 for Windows XP and other prior-generation operating systems won't be offered, so if you are using Windows XP you can return to the previous page because DX 10 is not available on your computer.

Applications written for the DX 10 API must also run on DirectX 10-supportive hardware. Before becoming excited over DX 10 make sure the video card and drivers you have installed on your computer are DX 10 compliant. If you have a high end video card installed on your computer and you upgraded to Windows Vista or Windows 7, it may not be able to take advantage of the benefits and features of DX 10. It must also be DX 10 compatible. Check you manufacturers specs, and your drivers to see if you can utilize DX 10 or not. If not, and you have no plans to purchase a new video card, you need not be concerned as to whether your games or Flight Simulator addons were made using the DX 10 API.

The DX 10 Compliant Stamp

This means that the aircraft was built using the DX 10 API. Aircraft built before DX 10 are not fully compliant. They can experience some texture/part transparency issues in Windows Vista or Windows 7 on some video cards/drivers in Flight Simulator X SP2. In most cases this will not be a problem, but on some systems it can happen. If you purchase an aircraft that is not carrying the DX 10 compliant seal, and you cannot resolve such display issues that you feel are distracting from the simulator experience we will gladly refund your money.

If you are operating in Windows XP any DX 10 feature is not relevant, and there will be no compatibility issue.
